Marianas Trench in Concert

Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench has been big news in Canada for years, and they caught on with US audiences in a major way following their acclaimed 2015 album Astoria, a slick collection of larger-than-life pop masterpieces that showcased their playful lyrical sensibility and knack for anthemic choruses. In concert, Marianas Trench is a whirlwind of emotion and attitude, rocking the stage with adrenaline-filled performances that put their tight musicianship front and center. Frontman Josh Ramsay is a born performer, and his energy is completely infectious as he sings his heart out on upbeat jams like "This Means War" and "Celebrity Status." The rest of the band keeps pace with lively performances that always leave fans thoroughly rocked and ready for more.

Marianas Trench Background

Marianas Trench was formed in Vancouver in 2001 by Josh Ramsay, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who previously fronted the group Ramsay Fiction. He joined forces with Matt Webb (lead guitar), Mike Ayley (bass), and Ian Casselman (drums), and Marianas Trench made their debut in 2002 with a self-titled EP. In 2006, the band released their full-length debut album Fix Me on 604 Records, which they supported with extensive touring across Canada. The album went gold in Canada, but its success paled in comparison to the band's 2009 sophomore LP Masterpiece Theatre, a Top 5 hit on the Canadian Albums Chart that established them as pop royalty virtually overnight. Their third album Ever After was equally well-received, cracking the Top 10 and earning a prestigious Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year, and earning the band the title of Juno Award winners for Group of the Year in 2013. Their fourth album Astoria earned them a 2016 Juno nomination for Group of the Year and unleashed the power ballad Who Do You Love. It also opened up Marianas Trench to the European market where the band toured twice in support of Astoria. Currently in the studio, Marianas Trench is hard at work putting the finishing touches on their 5th album set for release in early 2019.

    Shawn Hook was very good live and he was able to get the crowd ready for Marianas Trench. Once on stage, Marianas Trench played many of their old songs, while throwing in some of their new ones. Josh even came right into the back of the crowd with a separate stage to play an intimate song with the fans farther out in the audience. Overall an amazing performance!!!

    What an awesome performance! Again!! This was my third time going to see MT. And we had so much fun! People of all ages can enjoy his music! The Meridian Centre didn't have enough guest parking which meant we had a 10-15 minute walk to the Centre. But it was worth the walk!

    The concert itself was awesome. We had diamond VIP packages. We waited a VERY LONG time to see them. We were a bit disappointed because we thought we'd get to actually be inside for their sound check but once we DID see them it was great! This was our second time seeing them and we'd go again if we could.

    Once again Marianas Trench has blown me away! The concert rocked and they were killer live again. The meet and greet (which I strongly recommend) was great and my boyfriend and I photo with the band turned out awesome :-)! The band answered everyone's questions and told us funny stories and such. Do yourself a favour and go see Marianas Trench on their next tour! My only complaint would be that the instruments were a little to loud as compared to the vocals. Just a minor thing that's an easy fix. May have just been my ears too :-).

    Walk Off The Earth was truly great to watch and listen to live. They put on an exciting and fun performance. They even covered all their cover songs that make them so popular. I would definitely watch them again. Marianas Trench was WAY TOO loud. We didn't understand why the sound had to be so loud, it was really damaging to the ears, and because it was so loud, we couldn't hear the words they were singing...I had to plug my ears a few time cause it hurt. But I do have to say Josh does put on a fun show, he's very talented and loves to perform!

    From the confetti to the acrobaticl show it was absolutely incredible! Lead singer was very interactive with crowd and walked among fans on the floor!!

    Loved Walk of the Earth!Amazing performance and engaged with the audience. Marianas Trench fell short. I love their songs however, hearing them live they didn't sound the same. I thought they had great energy though!
