crazy horse era not for me - to old I guess. I want to see when he tours singing the old hits that most older people know
Been awhile since Neil lived in Winnipeg and it was nice to hear him say the words Prairie Town. I read the reviews from other shows and agreeded with most of them however if they wanted to hear a greatest hit show to bad. Be prepared .I went on the previous set lists from the shows over the last month and listened to all the new songs. When showtime came I knew all the songs and thought thew were done right on. Loved the show. Sound was excellent and Neil rocked it. I'm 63 years old and have seen Neil young solo, with Buffalo Springfield, with Crosby Stills and Nash and other line ups over the years and he has never let me down. Hadn't seen him in 25 years and was so glad I went to the show. Was nice to see a large number of 25-35 year olds enjoying his music. Great show Great time don't miss it. Some people "always" complain.
A mix of young and old. He pretty much alternated between classic hits and future hits. While some were put off by the lack of intimacy (read: acoustic) or the extended endings to most songs those who went looking for a solid electric show in the old style with Crazy Horse were not disappointed. Certain theatrical elements added to the show including a throwback to Woodstock as he lead into his one solo acoustic song of the night (needle) along with stage hands in mad scientist getups. It would be insulting to say he still rocks pretty hard for an old man. Neil holds his own with any current band, especially considering the fact that few of today's bands are actually responsible for their own success.
Happy birthday Neil. You've still got it in you to rock the house!!!
Neil was detached from his audience and did not acknowledge Winnipeg as a city where he lived for many years during his youth. This came across as arrogant. I hoped, and I am sure others in the audience hoped, that he would play a mix of his old and new material. He played few of his old hits, and the new material dragged on so long it was agonizing. I only stayed because I thought that the concert could only get better. It did not. Neil Young has always been one of my favourite musical artists, however, after his Winnipeg concert, I will not be inclined to listen to any of his music - new or old.
I confess, I really did want to hear the classics, with more lyrics than guitar.
The show was awesome, it was everything I expected it to be! But a word to the wise, if your expecting to see Neil young play a bunch of his solo acoustic tunes don't go, if your a fan of his music with crazyhorse then you know what to expect. He played Cortez the killer and fucken up, as well as powder finger and a bunch of his new songs. Don't go expecting heart of gold and old man this is a hard rock show! Don't miss this tour if your a true Neil young fan!
Third time seeing Neil,,,first time for Crazy Horse. Amazing, amazing, amazing! Played mostly from Psychedelic Pill. Fantastic concert. If they were playing reasonably close I would drive to see them again....but unfortunately they've move on too far east. If you are a Neil fan,,,don't miss this concert.
Super concert. What unforgettable nite. Right from opening acts to the very last song
That had to be the worst concert I have ever been to. I hated the extra long solo, 15 mins is far too long on a song I did not know. I only really knew 2 songs, I almost fell asleep (head-bobbed) 1/2 way threw the concert!! Many people were surfing the net and talking in my section, I was not the only one who was bored.
Neil Young's Calgary concert was a big letdown for us. We were expecting more of his older music; most of the concert was his new stuff which goes on... and on.... and on. Too bad - we love his older stuff and ended up leaving early as yet another of his new songs droned on...
We were expecting, especially my wife for the love songs and old favourites and so far he only did two. Especially our favourite Harvest Moon.
The old stuff was good, the new stuff was not bad. We could have done without that experimental stuff in the middle. I could stand it for a minute, but after 5 minutes it got old really fast.
Maybe I've just been to too many really good concerts lately, but I was pretty disappointed with the Neil Young show. Between the 25 minute ultra-repetitive jam sessions and the poorly put together stage show, I wouldn't recommend this personally to any of my friends. I'm a big fan of Neil and his music, and I might have had too high of expectations, but I think this show could have been a lot better. On the plus side, I did get to see Neil Young.
The staging of the performance and presentation was masterfully pulled together, although some of the song endings and transitions were, to me, too drawn out and in some instances a little confusing as to their contribution to the theme of the show. The show did show Neil's ability to wow with his guitar play as well as his lyric writing, a la Jeff Beck.
The concert was the best smoking hot jam fest in the history of the MTS centre. Neil young was on fire and when he ripped into his lead solo's he had the energy of a man half his age. Rock on Neil and we will wait for your return to the PEG, until then remember rust never sleeps and ROCK and ROLL is here to stay.
Neil and his band Crazy Horse rocked the MTS Centre on Friday like he's being doing for going on 50 years. The warm up acts were both terrific as expected but we paid to see Neil. He had little to say to Winnipeg other than the parcelled, "It's good to be back in Prairie Town." (or something to that effect) His set was the expected 12 song turnout of classics mixed in with new epics from his hot off the digital press CD, "Psychedelic Pill" of which "Walk Like a Giant " was the standout performance. He really got in to that tune as he extended it for an uncomfortably long time, playing around with the amps until he got his fix at the cost of some of my sanity and hearing capability. He also reminded the hometown crowd that he was "Born In Ontario" not Manitoba, as some people like to think. "Cinnamon Girl" stirred the crowd into a frenzy. My wife noted that people actually stayed in their seats and stopped milling around for this song, which of course only lasts for under three minutes. Overall however the show was entertaining and a testament to Neil's iron constitution, dedication to his craft and love of the road. I remember how people guffawed at the Stones still performing in their early fifties. How old did Neil become last Monday on November 12th????? Thirty five you say. He sure played like it. Question of the night; was that a real joint in Pedro's mouth during the encore, and if it was, how come he didn't light i up?
We loved it. Sure got our monies worth with the warm up bands and with Neil Young!
Neil Young can go from hard-core rock to acoustic ballad without missing a step. And all the while he provides great music. He went back to his Crazy Horse roots with Rust Never Sleeps and Cinnamon Girl and played songs from his newest album too. Of the two warm-up acts I liked the Sadies better than Los Lobos. It was especially great when Randy Bachman joined the Sadies on stage for their last two songs. Los Lobos seemed to be missing some cohesive force and just didn't grab me.
The show was great. They put on a great performance and didn't let me down. Neil Young sounded great and had lots of energy. So happy i got to see him again. I love Los Lobos and would love to see a longer set.
