NEW ORDER IN CONCERT:

As one of the most influential new wave bands of the '80s, New Order  brought electronic dance music to the forefront of mainstream consciousness, setting the tone for generations of music to come. EDM progenitors like "Blue Monday" and "Bizarre Love Triangle" sound as fresh today as they did 30 years ago, making the band a continued presence atop festival bills around the globe. Bernard Sumner and co. sounded as sharp as ever on tour in 2013, treating fans to an emotional Joy Division tribute during their encores and setting expectations sky high for their 2014 appearances.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in the wake of legendary post-punk band Joy Division, New Order pressed on after  late-frontman Ian Curtis' suicide with a decidedly more optimistic sound than the group's Curtis-fronted incarnation. With former guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. Over nine studio albums, New Order have built one of the most beloved legacies in popular music, continuing to thrill awestruck fans both in the studio and on the road.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Bernard and company came with a lot of energy. Played lots of New Order faves and dug deep for some Joy Division chestnuts."

"Perfect show. They played all the hits and closed with a flawless three song Joy Division encore. They sounded great"

"New Order still has it!!! Saw them back in the 80's & this show was just as awesome!"

Two of the best show their best

by Jeflar on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Got the chance to see the first show of the Unity Tour. In my opinion Pet Shop Boys stole the show (I might be biased). New Order had better visuals but felt their set list was a bit short/lacking.

New Order and PSB were Great the Venue is unbearable.

by ConcertEnthusiasts on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

New Order and Pet Shop Boys were great. Budweiser stage should be decommissioned. Putting people through that many bottle necks. Herding them like cattle is cruel and dated. Parking was a literal construction site. The poles obstructing the view was frustrating and caused people to just stand in isles. The seats were too small and close together. When people stand it forced those who were on the end to just stand in the isle. Demolish it - move on - build new venues.

    Great performers …sound not great

by TravellingMike on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

All the performers were entertaining . Unfortunately for some reason the sound for New Order who performed last didn’t sound balanced and had some feedback

    fantastic night

by Moira on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Both bands were absolutely amazing, it was a wonderful night and great value for money given that there were two headliners who played 90 minutes each as well as a DJ. The atmosphere and visuals were brilliant, we were on our feet dancing all night. Budweiser isn't the best venue though, the sound quality and view of the stage aren't as good as some other venues in Toronto, but overall it was an amazing unforgettable experience and well worth the nearly 3 year wait

    Problems with 1st Show

    by K. C. on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

The Pet Shop Boys were great. New Order were good but the sound engineer should be fired. The bass was to heavy, the vocals were to low and there was a lot of feedback. It took until the 3rd last song before before the sound was good and then it was only good. Many people left early and I suspect it was because of the poor sound.

After a wait of more than 2 years.....

by dogperson on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

The sound at the sides was poor. When the singers spoke, they were unintelligible like Charlie Brown’s teacher was. When advised by the promoter that the concert time has changed, I expect that the concert will, in fact, start at the new time. I did not want to hear, or expect, a ‘filler’ DJ. Again, Budweiser stage’s crowd processing is terrible—too small a physical area, too few employees. Learn lessons from the poor conditions for paying customers and figure out a new way to get people into the concert in a reasonable and pain free process. Both acts were good. Both also sounded better at the last Toronto dates they played at the O’Keefe centre. New Order’s light towers (?) blocked off the 2 front 10 feet (?) sections of the stage making it impossible to see 1 of the performers depending on which side of the seating you were.

    Unity Tour Toronto Ontario

    by Deadhead11 on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

The Pet Shop Boys put on an amazing show, Neil Tennant sounded fabulous. It was nice to see New Order but they aren’t the band they once were. Overall a fun experience, Pet Shop Boys are the must see part of this tour.

    here we go!

by me on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

i love this venue, the show was awesome but sound could have been a bit clearer. the bathrooms need bigger doorways, the food vendors are boring, the booze way too expensive and limited, and the door/bag policy is silly. i would also suggest getting bigger/giant video screens, the present ones are ok, but could be improved. ps-i'd love to work here, in any capacity! ✌️

PSB was great, NO was so-so

by Hatch on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Neil Tenant can still sing and the Pet Shop Boys were fantastic. Unfortunately, New Order was just so-so, Bernard seems to have lost his range and can't really sing anymore. Very disappointed not to hear any material off of Tehnique. No crowd interaction from any of the other New Order band members. Was also expecting a joint encore with some Electronic songs, just one would have been great! Sadly, it was not to be. I have to give this one to PSB, way more energy (even though I consider myself more of a New Order fan).

    Shadowplay

by Gabby the Guy on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I've seen New Order live 4 times now in Toronto - first in 1993, then post Peter Hook in 2012, 2018 and now 2022. This time probably was the worst of the four, and that's saying something after their '93 gig where everyone in the band was either too high or too drunk to care. In the aftermath of the split with Peter Hook, New Order had tried to disassociate themselves from what made them so good in the first place - their unmistakable sound, which often was primarily down to Hooky's bass. In songs like The Perfect Kiss and Love Will Tear Us Apart, that all important bass was pushed back into the mix, in favour of jangly guitars, resulting in both songs completely losing their impact. New song, Be a Rebel, sounds like a long and meandering Electronic B-Side, and has little New Order DNA in it. Only where it REALLY mattered did that bass shine through, in the brief unmistakable riff on Blue Monday. Everything else was plain and forgettable. A couple of months ago I saw Peter Hook and his band "The Light" play their versions of Joy Division and New Order songs (this being the third concert of theirs I've been to), and they blow the current New Order line up out of the water with pure energy, embracing everything that made these two iconic bands what they are. When Peter Hook plays The Perfect Kiss he ends with "That's how you play the f'king Perfect Kiss!". It's true - he KNOWS what that song needs to sound like and that New Order don't even come close to it. Suffice to say this sadly may be the last time I see New Order live. I will go to a Peter Hook concert again and again, because it's the closest you'll ever get to seeing New Order (and Joy Division) music played the way it's meant to be played now.

PSB and New Order were amazing!!!

by Lcrw on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

PSB always put on a creative, artistic show and they never fail to disppoint. Neil's voice sounds as clear as the day he recorded the vocals. New Order played their hits and had the crowd rocking along. Love how they shared the headlining duty - we felt like we had two full show in one evening!

    Fantastic concert

Everyone there was for the music and both bands delivered. They played all the classics with great light show. People danced and sang all night. Worth the three year wait

by Substance on 2022-09-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Pet shop boys sounded authentic. New order was great, but the vocals were a challenge at times. Music was great and we danced all night like most of the audience. Great night! 👍🥃🕺🏼💃🏻
