NEW ORDER IN CONCERT:
As one of the most influential new wave bands of the '80s, New Order brought electronic dance music to the forefront of mainstream consciousness, setting the tone for generations of music to come. EDM progenitors like "Blue Monday" and "Bizarre Love Triangle" sound as fresh today as they did 30 years ago, making the band a continued presence atop festival bills around the globe. Bernard Sumner and co. sounded as sharp as ever on tour in 2013, treating fans to an emotional Joy Division tribute during their encores and setting expectations sky high for their 2014 appearances.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in the wake of legendary post-punk band Joy Division, New Order pressed on after late-frontman Ian Curtis' suicide with a decidedly more optimistic sound than the group's Curtis-fronted incarnation. With former guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. Over nine studio albums, New Order have built one of the most beloved legacies in popular music, continuing to thrill awestruck fans both in the studio and on the road.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Bernard and company came with a lot of energy. Played lots of New Order faves and dug deep for some Joy Division chestnuts."
"Perfect show. They played all the hits and closed with a flawless three song Joy Division encore. They sounded great"
"New Order still has it!!! Saw them back in the 80's & this show was just as awesome!"
What an AMAZING show in Toronto! From the time Pet Shop Boys came on stage, to the encore with New Order, the entire crowd was on their feet dancing! Absolutely a show not to be missed!!!!!
Phenomenal show!! Last time I saw them was about 1992 or 93 at the old Kingswood Music Theatre......I don't remember them doing a tribute to Joy Division as they did in this show. Cooler than COOL!!!
I saw them when I (and they) were much younger. I loved them then, but they have managed to get better!!! The crowd was a good mix of people my age, much younger, and older than me. The audience was charged with emotion with every song, the mood lifting everyone ending with an encore featuring Joy Division songs complete with images of Ian Curtis. Young and old were moved to tears to hear those songs live.
A great show: the band was tight, sound was excellent, with a great light show,
Decent concert by eighties' favourites. Really good set list. Worthwhile night out.
With such a catalogue to chose from, a reliance on the old standby’s is getting tiring. The whole event was uninspired. The Toronto crowd didn’t help matters.
The New Order concert was a really good show. They played many of their classic hits and the energy of the audience was great as well.
A nice blast from the past! The band's music is still fresh. The encore Joy Division tribute was a little corny but well done.
As the past and current came together New Order still remain at the top of their game. Felt very privlaged to be part of one very few concerts they will play this year. Great setlist and Joy Division encore proves the influence they still hold over all who have come after. Thanks Barnie hope to see you back in Toronto before you pack it in.
We were afraid that they may not sound the same as years ago, but we’re pleasa surprised. I haven’t danced that much in ages.
Floors were awesome! Great sense of community down there. Bernard and Gillian were having a lot of fun performing for Toronto, which they haven't the last 4 times they've been here.
Everyone was on their feet singing and dancing along!
Amazing to see them after so many years, the sound and atmosphere was truly sensational, and the setlist was just right
I hadn’t seen them in over 30 years and wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was definitely the show of the summer!
Having Sumner actually talk to you! Cause I was wearing a JOY DIVISION T SHIRT
The sound of the band was great, but the vocals were a little muffled and could of used some more volume. Had a good time!
So glad I got to see them for the first time with my son and his friend. All enjoyed it.
Reworked most their hits and sounded amazing. Great show, great visuals and the band still rocks. Missed hookys bass though.
Awesome concert for a NEW ORDER fan! They played all their greats! The crowd didn't sit down from start to finish. They played their songs and added a little mix to it, to create a new dance mix! The only thing that has changed a little was his voice..... Hey, we're all getting a little older! Great Concert!!
I thought it would be good. It exceeded all my exceptions. They played all my favourites. Sounded great.
