About

Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 1983, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are one of the most critically acclaimed post-punk bands of the last 30 years. Following the end of their previous group, the Birthday Party, singer-songwriter Cave and drummer Mick Harvey began the Bad Seeds. Initially joined by Barry Adamson on bass and Blixa Bargeld on guitar, the band has seen a number of personnel changes over the years with the one constant being the creative force of Cave himself.
Exploring the themes of love and religion, the band’s debut album, From Her to Eternity, was released in 1984. Featuring a cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “In the Ghetto,” presented in the band’s inimitable style, the record showcased the deep impact of Cave’s baritone voice. Quickly following second album, The Firstborn is Dead, third release Kicking Against the Pricks saw the band first find fame in the UK and Ireland. Critics also began to sit up and take notice, with Cave’s prose-like approach to songwriting bringing welcome comparisons with Leonard Cohen. This narrative style was seen again on 1986’s Your Funeral…My Trial, before the beginning of a two year break from recording for the band.
Four more albums were released in the early ‘90s in addition to the band making a range of high-profile US festival appearances. The album Murder Ballads, released in 1996, became a critical success for the Bad Seeds and saw songwriter Cave explore two of his favorite themes: death and violence. The album featured vocals from Kylie Minogue on the single, “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” and the success of the song helped make Murder Ballads the band’s best -selling album so far. 1998 saw the release of No More Shall We Part, with further albums Nocturama and Abbatoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus being released in the early ‘00s.
Following a number of sell out tour dates in 2005 and 2006, Nick Cave’s musical achievements and creative contribution saw him inducted into Australia’s ARIA Hall of Fame. Not for the first time in his career, Cave then moved from music to movies, writing both the screenplay and soundtrack for John Hillcoat’s 2012 film, Lawless. Early 2013 saw the release of Push the Sky Away; the band’s first output in nearly five years, it was widely acclaimed by fans and critics alike.

  • Awesome!

Is there a better showman on the planet than Nick Cave ? I lost 20lbs just watching him perform ! The set list varied from searing rock to beautiful ballads. A truly transcendent concert.

  • Fantastic Concert

by JohnnyMac on 2025-05-14Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

First time seeing him live. What an engaging, interesting and cool man. More lively than singers half his age. Band and backup singers were also fantastic. Great experience and vocals were clear and venue enabled this.

  • Three days later still in the glow

Amazing!! First time seeing Nick live and have to say it was probably the most transcending experience I have ever had at concert. If you like Nick Cave and the bad seeds GO! You will love them at the end and think what did I experience. I would say love and connection with the band and the crowd. A must see. I want to go again!!

  • Muddy sound, too loud for the venue

by VYRmsclvr on 2025-05-14Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

I thought Nick started the show drunk or high but sobered up as the night went on. However, his improvement in function was not matched by any improvement in the sound. Muddy, fuzzy and generally lacking in clarity. The mikes Nick used varied from producing an unintelligible racket to being reasonably clear, but the vocals were never sharp. The volume would have been suitable in a venue twice the size but in the QE it just created a wall of muddled sound. The ballads were much better but when the band was rocking, the bounce from the back of the theatre was so bad it really took away from the experience. I get it; it is meant to be loud and in your face. But musicianship should still be detectable! I'd go to see the band again, but in a bigger venue where the volume is better matched to the space.

  • One of the best concerts I’ve ever experienced

by Adam on 2025-05-14Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Impeccable sound. Classy a/v. Great energy. Nick Cave and the band had us enthralled. An almost spiritual experience.

  • Emotional. Intimate. Unforgettable

by Stanley on 2025-05-12Rating: 5 out of 5

Few artists can command a stage of this scale with such intimacy, and even fewer can sustain it with such grace and intensity. The entire show was an auditory masterpiece: dynamic, heartfelt, and deeply moving. It all culminated in a final encore unlike any other—Nick alone at the piano, the entire Queen Elizabeth Theatre singing with him in unison. It was a moment of pure, shared emotion—stunning and unforgettable. Thank you.

  • Sad and Beautiful

    by CaveFan73 on 2025-04-28Meridian Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Part way through the show, Nick commented that "sad and beautiful is what I do... and angry. I have the emotional reach of a 3 year old". I have been luck to have seen Bad Seeds twice and Nick solo once. Each was very different. This one felt particularly personal and heartbreakingly beautiful. The Bad Seeds were cooking all night and the choir was unreal and uplifting, particularly on the Wild God tracks.

  • Electrifying show

Nick Cave concerts are really unique experience. Once in a lifetime show. I am glad that my wife and son were there for the first time to see such an exceptional artist.

  • A Transformative Experience

by Nick of Time on 2025-04-27Meridian Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I have listened to Nick Cave since the early 90s and took the opportunity to see him live for the first time. The reviews were glowing in advance of my attending the show so I had great expectations. Those expectations were shattered. It would be safe to say that this was the best live performance that I have attended in over 59 years of concert going. His raw power, poetic arabesques and charismatic delivery was nothing short of transformative. Cave brought us to a state of ecstasy that allowed for collective emotional and spiritual catharsis that was as close to an old bible tent revival as you could get. He connected with a crowd who were eating out of his hand. He brought us together to celebrate our collective beauty, joy and heartache with musical and poetic mastery. His stagecraft and presence were electrifying. Best $230 dollars I have ever spent

  • Magistrale expérience!

    by Isa&Ben on 2025-04-27Place Bell - LavalRating: 5 out of 5
