About

Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having served as a major influence for artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, the Strokes, Weezer, and many more.  And today, a whole new generation of music fans has been discovering and embracing the band's "loudquietloud" signature sound.  Quirky, catchy melodies have always been Pixies' calling card; seven genre-defining studio albums, including the Gold-certified Surfer Rosa, and the iconic Platinum Doolittle, considered one of the all-time, quintessential alt/rock albums.  Sell-out crowds all over the globe, Pixies' live shows are unadulterated magic, simultaneously electrifying and lo-fi.  Seventy-five minutes of the band playing anything they want, in whatever order they want, the classics and the new gems.  And no two Pixies shows are ever the same.

After disbanding in 1993, Pixies launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds across the globe for 15 years, a far longer period of time than they were a band originally.  But writing, recording, and releasing new music was something that the band had been wanting to do for a long time, so they secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall of 2012.  Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, finishing and releasing the band's first studio album in more than two decades, 2014's Indie Cindy.

As a prolific international touring band, Francis, Santiago, Lovering began working with a number of touring bassists, including former A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lenchantin. The band are renowned for their emphatic live performances - where they play all four corners of the globe - their live sets regularly rack up to 30+ songs played - made even more impressive by the fact that there are no pre-planned setlists or soundchecks before the band walk onto the stage to play.

Twenty-sixteen's Head Carrier followed and marked the beginning of the band's long-standing collaboration with British producer Tom Dalgety.  Twenty-eighteen's Beneath the Eyrie, the next full-length recording project with Dalgety, was recorded at Dreamland Studios near Woodstock, NY. The recording session was documented by the innovative "It's a Pixies Podcast," which captured a true un-edited record of the recording process. A deluxe edition followed, featuring unreleased demos from the Dreamland session.

Early 2022 saw the band and producer Dalgety settle into Guilford Studios in the woods of Vermont, armed with a true abundance of riches, more demos than were needed for the band's eighth album, Doggerel.  Pixies renewed musical fervor saw a stand-alone single, "Human Crime," leap from the shadows in March 2022, and the band then headed out on the road to play sold-out shows in North America, headline BBC Radio 6 Music Festival in Cardiff, and play Mexico City's Vive Latino festival to 70,000 people.  Pixies' first international tour since 2019 kicks off June 22 in Europe and will see the band performing in South America, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Doggerel (2022) is a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock haunted by the ghosts of affairs and indulgences, driven wild by cosmic forces and envisioning digital afterlives where no God has provided one.

Doggerel was toured worldwide to sell-out audiences across the entirety of 2022 and 2023 - with the very last show at Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles. Despite the band approaching their 38th year together, the crowds remain as diverse as ever - with new generations of fans emerging year-on-year who were not even born during Pixies 1.0. Pixies will return in 2024...

Got to the venue and we're advised that the section our seats were in is now closed and we would be assigned seats elsewhere in the arena. Got 3 seats in one section and 2 in another for our party of five. Would have been nice to enjoy the show together as a group when we paid so much for the tickets. It's a shame they couldn't have notified us beforehand or done something extra to accommodate their error.

  • Death to pixies!

by Jo on 2023-09-13UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The show was fantastic! 3 of my fav bands sooo really can’t go wrong. But also the venue was pretty great despite the negative reviews I’d previously heard. The lineups at the food/drink stands and merch table were minimal.

  • Great show

by Rebecca on 2023-09-13UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Loved it. They played (almost) everything I wanted to hear and I was singing along the whole time. Please come back to Vancouver!

  • I love The Pixies ❤️

by Yulamoon on 2023-09-12UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The Pixies and Modest Mouse put on an Amazing show! Loved all the performances. The sound wasn’t too bad, ;) a little rough at the beginning during Cat Power, but luckily improved by the headliners . Security was absolutely ridiculous in our area- we were harassed and interrupted several times by a couple of the guards, abusing their authority. Pretty disappointed at that, but didn’t let it put too much of a damper in the presence of one of the most legendary band’s ever. Thank you! Y

  • Great bands but poor crowd n venue

by Pokes on 2023-09-12UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Half the attendees of this show were either senior citizens or minors. The sound for cat power was good, foor modest mouse it was ok, and for the pixies it sort of sucked. Watched a high girl fall n hit her head on concrete and security cleared her space and just let her get up n wobble off despite being wasted n probably concussed. Sort of unimpressed. Was a much bettet show at Rogers Arena.

  • Just a plain play

by Guito on 2023-09-12UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

I expected more energy from the band, some jam and interaction with the audience, but they just hopped on, played their songs and left. Zero connection with people.

  • Great Performance

by Jerr on 2023-09-12UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

The show was amazing and to have both Pixies and Modest Mouse made the night that much better. The venue is out of the way so if you are not driving be prepared as a few people took ride sharing and ended up in the wrong area. Was also very difficult to get a ride once the show ended

  • FuckingA!

by MACK on 2023-09-12UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Pixies and Modest Mouse on the same night? It's seemed too good to be true. But it was true. Throw in some Cat Power and it was even more awesomer. Great venue to see such high calibre performances!

  • Bands great/Venue terrible

by Monkey gone to heaven on 2023-09-12UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

The bands were amazing!!!! The venue itself was severely lacking None of the staff knew where to direct us to recieve our wrist bands. We asked every staff member we saw and each one told us they didn't know or directed us incorrectly. It was a wild goosechase and truly ridiculous They also had two men and one woman staff member in the woman's washroom grabbing an intoxicated woman very roughly trying to drag her our of the washroom and asking her very personal questions (This was the washroom by the first aid) I'd also want to add that the first aid table was a bunch just staff on their phones and eating. Not paying attention to anything but themselves. It was in a corner where they weren't visible unless you were going into the women's washroom either. This venue is truly ill prepared.

by wigguns on 2019-12-15The Phoenix Concert Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Great show, Black and Co. were on their game! Phoenix was way too packed, but I was only about 10 feet from the stage, and I scored a poster for the show so what do I care?! Loved it!

  • I lost my voice and then my mind!

by JacobL on 2017-12-07Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concerts of my life! So happy I got to see Frank, and being in the pit, inches away from one of my personal hero's! Don't know how to put it into words!

  • Pixies were ok

by Anonymous on 2017-12-07Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

The show was good as far as sound and we had good seats. They played their hits but there was no fan interaction between songs, no hey thanks for coming out, how is it going, nothing. The band did not even interact during the show. It was like they put on a CD, played their instruments, then waved to the audience then left. I will not spend my money to see them again.

  • Pixies killed it !

  • This monkey went to heaven!

    by Hipfan311 on 2017-10-14Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The show blew us away... Sounds like the album, but better. Frank Black was in great humour and was amazing. Bass player was really good almost as good as Kim DeaL. Show was packed, with psychedelic light show...eat some cookies!!

  • Very Workman-like Pixies

    by dmsj65 on 2017-10-07Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The Pixies was a good show with the them playing for almost 2 hours straight. They actually did not leave the stage before playing their encore song which was pretty cool in itself. For the encore, they played Into The Light with only a couple of stage lights behind them which set a very eerie effect. The band was very tight as a unit but as expected very little stage banter or interaction with the audience. No thank yous or commentary, just played song after song with Frank only speaking into a mic at the back of the stage announcing the next song to his bandmates only.

  • PIXIES!!!

by mlry on 2017-10-03Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

My third time seeing the Pixies in the last 7 years & this show was the best yet! So loud, so rockin & I even enjoyed the light show that I at first questioningly thought might be too "showy". Age has no meaning in rock n' roll & the Pixies are certainly no exception, even though I felt like 17 again.

  • YES

I have seen The Pixies 3 times now and this was by far the best performance I've seen. Absolutely blistering!!!

  • by barkybark on 2017-10-02Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Band was good, energy was high and pounded out song after song. Not a lot of audience interaction. Terrible sound where I was sitting. Couldn’t hear vocals.

  • Pixies Smashed It!

This band was so tight that day. Never missed a beat and rocked it!
