About

Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having served as a major influence for artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, the Strokes, Weezer, and many more.  And today, a whole new generation of music fans has been discovering and embracing the band's "loudquietloud" signature sound.  Quirky, catchy melodies have always been Pixies' calling card; seven genre-defining studio albums, including the Gold-certified Surfer Rosa, and the iconic Platinum Doolittle, considered one of the all-time, quintessential alt/rock albums.  Sell-out crowds all over the globe, Pixies' live shows are unadulterated magic, simultaneously electrifying and lo-fi.  Seventy-five minutes of the band playing anything they want, in whatever order they want, the classics and the new gems.  And no two Pixies shows are ever the same.

After disbanding in 1993, Pixies launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds across the globe for 15 years, a far longer period of time than they were a band originally.  But writing, recording, and releasing new music was something that the band had been wanting to do for a long time, so they secretly booked studio time in Wales for the fall of 2012.  Six days into the recording, founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band; Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, finishing and releasing the band's first studio album in more than two decades, 2014's Indie Cindy.

As a prolific international touring band, Francis, Santiago, Lovering began working with a number of touring bassists, including former A Perfect Circle bassist Paz Lenchantin. The band are renowned for their emphatic live performances - where they play all four corners of the globe - their live sets regularly rack up to 30+ songs played - made even more impressive by the fact that there are no pre-planned setlists or soundchecks before the band walk onto the stage to play.

Twenty-sixteen's Head Carrier followed and marked the beginning of the band's long-standing collaboration with British producer Tom Dalgety.  Twenty-eighteen's Beneath the Eyrie, the next full-length recording project with Dalgety, was recorded at Dreamland Studios near Woodstock, NY. The recording session was documented by the innovative "It's a Pixies Podcast," which captured a true un-edited record of the recording process. A deluxe edition followed, featuring unreleased demos from the Dreamland session.

Early 2022 saw the band and producer Dalgety settle into Guilford Studios in the woods of Vermont, armed with a true abundance of riches, more demos than were needed for the band's eighth album, Doggerel.  Pixies renewed musical fervor saw a stand-alone single, "Human Crime," leap from the shadows in March 2022, and the band then headed out on the road to play sold-out shows in North America, headline BBC Radio 6 Music Festival in Cardiff, and play Mexico City's Vive Latino festival to 70,000 people.  Pixies' first international tour since 2019 kicks off June 22 in Europe and will see the band performing in South America, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Doggerel (2022) is a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutal rock haunted by the ghosts of affairs and indulgences, driven wild by cosmic forces and envisioning digital afterlives where no God has provided one.

Doggerel was toured worldwide to sell-out audiences across the entirety of 2022 and 2023 - with the very last show at Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles. Despite the band approaching their 38th year together, the crowds remain as diverse as ever - with new generations of fans emerging year-on-year who were not even born during Pixies 1.0. Pixies will return in 2024...

  • Pixies Delight

by BigTony on 2014-10-12Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

They were as tight as ever and Paz filled in for Kim without a hitch. Frank Black's vocals are still great and the new album songs were very good. Great show!

Not much to say here, an intimate venue with a great band. Hit after hit all evening and it was thoroughly by all in attendance.

I love the Pixies! I would follow them around on tour if I could. They are my #1 must see band. However, I did miss Kim.

Love the Pixies. I will see them every time they and I are in the same city. It was great to hear them play songs from every album (they played virtually non-stop for the entire show), although it was odd (to me) that they did not play the title track from Indie Cindy - their latest album.

Frank Black sang out of key, intentionally, at the greatest times. Such a goof, haha. Although the band never spoke to the crowd, their antics added all the flavour you could ask for. The new girl sang some songs really well, and was a bit out of place for some of the classics.

  • Great Show

by FoxSilvermoon on 2014-10-09Shaw Conference Centre - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

So good. Sound was a little off, but that's just the Shaw. The venue is not my fav but the Pixies put on a great show... Joey Santiagos fancy pants guitar playing was pretty fun to watch... who knew you could make that kind of sound with a guitar cord!?

  • Pixies were unforgettable

Simply amazing ! 3rd time seeing them and this show tops them all by a mile!

  • Pixies were perfect!

by Frkscrap on 2014-02-21Orpheum Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

It was an odd show tho however, without fellow band mate Kim Deal. She was the only one that would ever interact or engage the crowd Without her, it was super dry. They just raced through their set song after song, remarkable still. Just little weird, the new girl was real good on some songs and some songs not so. Still a great show One if my all time favorite bands, good see them making new music!

  • Pixies were amazing

Well it was my first time seeing them.I saw Frank Black and his band before but Pixies is the real thing.I couldn't believe how tight they were and the sound was great .I was a bit disapointed that they didn't play Monkey's gone to heaven or Aliison and alec Eiffel but all in all it was a great show. They made me feel young again and if they come again in the future I won't miss it, Great job guys!!

  • The Pixies were unforgettable!!!

    by LM74 on 2014-01-20Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

A great show, most of their big hits a few exceptions some new stuff which I didn't love originally but sounded better live. Missed Kim Deal and her vocals, probably the reason they didn't play a few songs, the bassist they had filling in was great. Our seats in the Left Centre Balcony were perfect. They played from 9:15 to 11 with little breaks or banter in between, A longer encore would have been great.

  • Pixies...blah!

by Venuspop on 2014-01-20Métropolis - MontrealRating: 2 out of 5

This was my second time seeing Pixies (first time in Auckland New Zealand 3-4 years ago) and AGAIN, the sound was shit, you couldn't hear Frank Black sing, nor the subtleness of Santiago's guitare playing. They had no interaction with the crowd - the visuals and lights were useless. The only reason why I gave them a 2 star is because they played a long set (almost 2hrs).

The concert as a whole was excellent. The music was great and the concert length was great. However: The light show throughout the concert was annoying. The bright white lights were often on the audience. I get migraines from constant bright lights. I did leave the concert with a massive headache. Also: The audio level was too high. I was using professional musicians air plugs and still found the show too loud. By the time the concert was over, I was ready to leave. Overall, I did enjoy Fidler and the Pixies. Their music was excellent and what I expected from great musicians.

  • Legendary Alt-Rocker Pioneers!!

The Pixies performed an Excellent of their New and Best of Catalogue to a Packed House! Frank should lighten up more and talk to the Crowd that's Adoring and $upporting them though.

Static performance. Static crowd. Hopeless. I can no longer listen to the pixies and enjoy them

  • Where's Mr. Black's voice?!

by PyoT on 2014-01-18Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

Sound wasn't great but work on the individual instruments was solid. My biggest issue were the vocals. Couldn't hear Frank that well and that takes a lot from the experience! I saw Pixies about 6 years back and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. This time wasn't even close :(

  • Pixies First Show of Tour

    by Joe777 on 2014-01-18Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I've seen the Pixies many times, and this show was not quite on par with previous shows. The sound was not mixed that well, Joey's guitar was quiet and not as noticeable as usual. The band seemed in a hurry to end the show. Also really missed Kim Deal's vocals.

  • Pixies still rock!!!

by Erxeight on 2014-01-18Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Ok I agree with the people out there that say you can't replace Kim Deal, but Paz did an awesome job filling in. I like the new material - don't listen to the haters -the Pixies are still musically relevant and I never get tired of hearing the classics live!

  • by PixiesFan on 2013-10-08Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome show, the Pixies have the most amazing sound and make you wanna get up and dance.

  • AWESOMEST EVER!

by BAyers on 2011-10-14Shaw Conference Center - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

By far the best concert I've ever been to. I love venues like the Shaw Conference Center where you can hang out and dance or scurry to the side and be a wall flower. The Pixies have so much energy and they really gave it their all. I remember when I learned the Pixies had broken up and thought it was sad that I'd never be able to go to a concert. But alas they got back together! If they ever came back to Edmonton I would surely go again.
