    Rock On The Range Sucked

by Biffstar on 2011-08-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

They might as well have called the event "Alice In Chains with special guests Evanescence" because every other band there before those two sucked terribly. Absolutely brutal, with those sentiments echoed by nearly everybody there that I crossed paths with. Not to mention having the event at the MTS Centre was quite possibly the WORST decision they could have made. Cramped floor, no escape from the noise of the crappy bands, no cool summer breeze, etc. Having the show outdoors at the stadium is the biggest appeal of Rock on the Range, and they ruined that the moment they announced the show being moved indoors. I understand that they moved it to the MTS Centre due to lackluster ticket sales, but if they had a solid band line-up that people wanted to see, it'd be a non-issue. i.e. The Sheepdogs? Really? Was that some cruel joke?

    2 bands stood out

    by mondo3 on 2011-08-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Evanescence were fantastic and worth the price of admission. Amy's voice was perfect. I also liked the energy of five finger death punch; their lead singer was really enjoying himself and it carried over into the crowd.

    Ughhh....the sound....

    by RockJaw420 on 2011-08-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Great concert. The one beer at a time thing was bullshit. I walked in and women were wisked on through while guys were padded down. I could have had brass knucks on me and it wouldn't have mattered as they really didn't check out my shit anyway. So what was the purpose of that really?? Didn't care for that at all. The sound was crap. At least I thought it could have been mixed better. The only acts I caught were Five Finger Death Punch, The Sheepdogs, Evanescence and AIC. I gotta tell ya, I'd pay to see any one of them again. If it weren't for AIC, I would have cancelled my tickets after the change of venue. Overall a good show though. Thanks guys!!

    Coud've been better

by pelladj on 2011-08-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Overall not a bad show, Highlight would have to be Evanescence, holy crap Amy Lee can belt it out. Alice in Chains was pretty good too, musically they were perfect, but I found myself bored about halfway through because they didn't interact with the crowd at all. Although the Sheepdogs seemed a little out of place they put on a great sounding show, kinda made me feel like they should have been part of the Woodstock lineup. Surprise of the day was definitely Volbeat, not being too familiar with them I am sure a fan now. Also was surprised at how many random "Go Jets Go!!" chants got going throughout the day. Lowlight had to be Five Finger Death Punch, I'm not really a fan, but was at the show with some fans and even they said they were horrible. Hinder and The Reason and Art of Dying did pretty good, The Reason's set could have been longer, they had to get off stage halfway through a song due to time. Loaded, Drive A, Anberlin and Me Versus were all pretty forgettable. Disappointments, Sum 41 backing out... again, and the venue itself, would have loved to have been at the stadium. And of course $7.75 a beer is just plain highway robbery.

Would not go again unless it was outside.

by Wettkatt on 2011-08-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Sure I got a free shot of Jagermeister from the Jager girls, but other than that, the set up was horrible. $8.00 for a beer and you are only aloud 1 at a time. If you wanted a drink or a smoke you had to stand in line forever and miss the show. The last 2 years at the statium was amazing. The set up there was great. Would not go next year if it was at the MTS centre again unless they had one hell of a line-up (by which I mean they better have every band from the Ohio tour here). The music was good, but again this is not meant to be an indoor festival. I only rated it fair because the music was decent. Other than that ROTR indoors I give it a 0 rating.

    Poor Organization and Sound

by AliceinChange on 2011-08-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Really, it was the worst experience I've had at this event so far. If I knew how they were organizing things at MTS Centre, I would have asked for a refund when they changed the venue. Sound was terrible, viewing angles were terrible, concession prices were very high (yes, I know the NHL is back, but I wasn't at an NHL game - different demographic attending this versus an NHL hockey game). Evanescence was easily the best part of the day / evening. Alice in Chains was ok. The Sheepdogs were enjoyable; they are a sound band with good imagination and talent... The surprise of the event. All the other bands were drastically disappointing.

    Blagh

by Pitbosskev on 2011-08-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Move to mts center was a huge disappointment. Two bands cancel and weren't replaced. No discount offered due to changes. Went through main entrance and to the floor. Stopped and said I needed a braclet. Really? How about you setup a table and direct people to it. There better be stellar bands next time or rotr will be dead.

    Alice In Chains is Amazing!

    by Rock01 on 2011-08-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Overall I thought it was a good event. I had fun, I got to see Alice in Chains, they were the band I went for and they definitely delivered. I also found a new band that I really like there, Volbeat. They too were really good. Evanescence was kind of out of place to me it seemed. I actually left during her performance. I would have preferred to have some other band there. Also I'm not really into Sum 41 but it sucks that their spot was filled with The Sheepdogs. The Sheepdogs are good but they were already scheduled to play and I know it was a last minute cancellation but still a little disappointed. Wish another band could have gotten brought in. It was also super annoying that you were only allowed 1 drink at a time. I found that a bit ridiculous. All in all the bands played really well and there was some good merchandise to choose from. For $85 I feel I got my money's worth for sure. It was my second time attending ROTR, I'll keep coming back as long as the line-up has something to offer me.

Tickets were over priced for the venue compared to last years. I bought VIP tickets withthe expectation of being outside. When the venue was changed to the mts center and when sum 41 canceled we shouldn't of had to pay full price. The lineup of bands also wasnt the same quality as 2010.

    Decent show. Way overpriced

by Burnzy on 2011-08-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

Bought 2 tickets the first day they went on sale. They cost me $100 each with all the convenience fees, mail fees, ticketmaster fees, air tax, food tax, email tax etc... First the show got moved from the original, and bettet location of the Bombers stadium, which would be an outdoor music festival. Then they move it indoors to MTS center. Whatever, I'll live, but it wasn't a cool announcement. Then Sum 41 bows out 2 days before the show. No problem as they are in the "where are they now?" file anyways but still, not getting all the bands that were advertised. Lastly, there were people getting general admission floor access for a cool $20. This makes me upset as I spent $200.

Ev was awesome.. and so WAs AIC!!

by kisswassoawesome on 2011-08-22MTS Centre - Winnipeg

I loved the bands they were the only good part about this event.. but i bought vip tickets and it was a total rip off! the section on the floor for vip was not risen so i couldn't see over anyone's head! then the seated part was behind a stage so when the band put up a banner we couldn't see anythign anyways.. the main reason we got the vip tickets was so we didn't have to wait for drinks very long as compared to last year, but it didn't matter we still had to wait 20 minutes to get a drink. Very disappointed with paying so much money for so little..

Korn put on an amazing show with a truly unforgettable minor version of John Lennon's "Imagine". And the people of Columbus are really friendly. Already thinking about next year!!!

    Disturbed killed it!

by Packerz888 on 2011-05-24Columbus Crew Stadium - Columbus

A lot of good bands over the weekend but Disturbed was incredible. I have seen them probably 8 times in the last 3 years and on Sunday night they were in stellar form. The intensity from the crowd made the atmosphere really cool but it was there non-stop assault on your ear holes.......get up! I saw some really cool bands on the side stage as well and even enjoyed POD on the small stage.

ROTR 2010 was great. All the bands were amazing. I wish the alcohol lines weren't as long as they were but OH WELL!! I hope it will come back next year. Loved the blackberry contests! Won some VIP passes that way!

by zap87 on 2010-08-20Canad Inns Stadium - Winnipeg

All and all was a awesome day.Every band sounded great.Finger Eleven,Buckcherry,Godsmack and Three Days Grace sounded the best to me!The only complaint I had was the beer line ups.20 minute wait just to get a beer is way to long, needed more beer vendors.
