    Fab

by Juancho3 on 2017-07-15National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Rufus was in fine form, the NAC orchestra was brilliant (the arrangements often enhanced the songs and took us into new lands and atmospheres. The introduction and rendition of "America" made the current political moment transparent and captured the foreboding many of us feel.

    Rufus great LIVE !!!!

by jockswimmer on 2016-01-16Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

While I know Rufus is great on record because I have them all, he sounds even better live in person. That voice is magic, the songs were intense, brooding, story-telling and uplifting. You could hear a pin drop when Rufus sits down at the piano and sings his tunes...it was breathtaking at times. The added bonus was the CPO backing him on his many orchestra type songs. It was my first time seeing Rufus although I have been a fan for years and he lived up to my expectations and moreso. A great Canadian treasure.

He doesn't have just the talent to amuse

by Lady112 on 2013-11-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

What are you expecting about an artist you love? To be himself. Always. Tired. Jetlaged.Distracted. Not interested. Himself. Not a machine with no sentiments. Not a robot with no feelings. Not to put himself on automatic drive. You are very demanding. Always going into the depth, you ask. Always going into the pain. Always being able to connect you with the Music of the Speres. He has to work. A man. a piano. a lonely guitar. Music helps. Music always helps. Applause too. The room is warm for him. He was expected. He takes you in the Underworld. again. Under the ice of song. Does he say as usual : Thank you and good night. Blowing a kiss. Or is it in your imagination'? Does he disappoint you by just being human tonight? No. Because he doesn't have just the talent to amuse.

Multi talented second time I've seen him live. He's a one man show literally. To captivate an audience, write the music & sing so powerfully he is clearly a remarkable talent.

    Rufus always worth seeing

by YoMomaV on 2013-11-05National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

He was relaxed on stage in this solo performance, accompanying himself on piano and guitar. The set list provided a good overview of his work. What hampered my enjoyment of the show, however, was that people around me were using cameras (the man behind me even used a flash!), and cell phones, to text/photo/record. The bright flashes from these devices were distracting and annoying. I brought this to the attention of an usher, who disinterestedly told me she'd talk to her supervisor about it. There WAS a request before the show to turn off devices and to not take photographs - why not enforce it?!

    Loved Rufus!

by imsewfine on 2013-11-05National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

He has such an innocent charm to him and totally entertains the masses. His expertise at the piano, the guitar and in his lyrics is a pleasure to listen to. The NAC is a fantastic venue for him to perform and I love the fact that he is all alone on the stage. But, he makes you part of his performance.

This was my second time seeing Rufus Wainwright at the NAC, and it was just as good as the first time. Anyone who is a fan should see him, nothing compares to how amazing he sounds live!

    Rufus Wainwright was delightful

by BBCT on 2013-11-05National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I felt like I was at a private party where Rufus Wainwright had taken over the piano and entertaining his friends! The first time I have seen Mr. Wainwright perform and was enchanted.

    Rufus Disappoints

by peiclamdigger on 2011-11-17National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I love Rufus and I will never give up on him. His voice and Piano playing send me to a peacfful place, however I was disappointed at this concert. We was not at his best and the concert was too short.

Rufus was so lovely! And funny of course!

by Sneakers13 on 2011-11-15National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

He was gracious and silly. I truly enjoyed his performance and loved he came back for two encores. He sang one of his mother's songs as well as songs from his upcoming album. Best concert since Adele! He is an incredible piano player to say the least.

The concert was wonderful. Just Rufus, his piano and at times his guitar. His voice was pure and beautiful. And he was very entertaining.

He forgot the words how many times?

by disappointed200 on 2011-11-15National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

When I pay to hear a professional performer, I expect to see a professional. Rufus was far from professional on Saturday night. Did he rehearse at all? If he was a friend just singing for other friends it was a good night. But Rufus is a professional and he forgot words, started songs over - how many times? He obviously has talent, a beautiful voice and great lyrics. His performance was lacking.

    Original, compelling great Canadian artist!

by elizadoollittle on 2011-11-15National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I've been a fan of the Wainwrights both Rufus' late mother and his sister Martha. This was my first show of his. He has a magnificent voice and a unique style. An avid music enthusiast I find him compelling because he is his own 'genre' can't be pegged into anything else. If you enjoy classical music he is well trained both vocally and on the piano with a modern edge. If you like blues, bluegrass, singer/songwriter type feel you may also appreciate him. I highly recommend this talented Canadian!

Rufus continues to be a wonderful entertainer

by Anonymous on 2011-11-15National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The mood and environment that Rufus creates with the audience is wonderful. His music continues to provide insight into life. It is not easy creating the level of connectedness with an audience using a single artist and instrument unless you are talented. Rufus does this, and he does it exceptionally well. Thank you Rufus. Until next time.
