  • I saw his utopia concert and I loved his Kirkyness

by Mikey on 2023-03-05Rating: 5 out of 5

I didn’t go to his concert but I saw him on HBO , he is quite different and entertaining that he made me feel like he was in my mind. I loved his orchestra of musicians and gives a unique vision of all walks of life. Love all his music and character. Talking Heads was one of my favourite bands growing up and I see his personality as I seen it then. Hope I can get tickets one day if he ever comes to Toronto or nearby.

  • Unique theatrical experience

by RosemontAlpha on 2018-11-17Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I attended to see Benjamin Clementine but was blown away by David's show, I hadn't expected a unique and thought provoking experience with clear political undertones and messages. The 'untethered' band with were amazing, a visual feast that at times made me think of Tusk. David managed to be more than relevant, he was fresh, energetic, energizing. The kind of show that makes you want to jump on a plane and head to the next tour date

  • Amazing night with David and gang!

by Kevnic on 2018-08-11DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

My husband has never seen David Byrne live, and he was absolutely thrilled about the overall performance. Myself, I am not a fan of David Byrne's music (I have very narrow musical interests), however the visual performance was out of this world! I was mesmerized by how he took a simple stage design and turned it into something beautiful and unique at every song. We would both definitely go to see him again!

  • Byrne Burns Down the House

by Whinersmusic on 2018-08-09Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Sorry, I'm sure the "burning down the house" headline is a bit cliche but it is apropos to the concert. In fact, we were all left wanting more after close to two hours worth of solo and Talking Heads material. Pretty well non-stop movement on a barren stage but well travelled throughout the set. Nothing was static, including the band who carried their instruments around and around. Amazing! The playing was flawless and the energy of Byrne and two accompanying dancers was high, high, high. The simplicity of working in basically a box - almost as if watching a puppet show - worked so well, I think more artists might want to try this vs. set and effects overload. Think more theatrical than big screen-itis. The sound was great too. About the only criticism I would make is we were standing through most of the show. Always reminds me of a high school dance when that happens. For these, ah, older bones, I prefer to get up only near the ending but I will confess that the band and Byrne's energy was infusive right out of the gate. A brief note on the opening act: he didn't introduce himself but had a great voice and accompanist playing bass. Songs were quirky and he warmed things up very nicely. But it would be useful for his own advancement to let us know who he is! I could look it up, of course, but let's leave it a mystery here just like there. In conclusion, this show is in my top 10 concerts of all time. I hope we get a DVD of it!

  • Burning Down the House

Great show. Wish he would have played some older songs we all came to hear.

  • A well-produced show!

by MightyNK on 2018-08-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This was the first time that I had seen David Byrne live. He was innovative, engaging, and in fine voice. This was a terrific concert! I would absolutely recommend catching a show on this tour!

  • David Byrne still going strong

by RfromOsh on 2018-08-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

jIt's been a while since I saw Mr Byrne last but I was not disappointed. He is entertaining and provided a variety of old and new songs. His band was very talented -- playing in standing positions and in bare feet! Similarly, his dancers and himself were also dancing in bare feet the whole show. The sound in the Sony Centre is excellent -- music was not too loud and the seating was very comfortable. I would say if anything people should sit down; if one gets up, then everyone needs to get up else you are unable to see. Opening act, Benjamine Clementine was also great -- what a voice!

by Gigantic on 2018-08-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Ive seen both David Byrne and Talking Heads before and this tour was probably the best show of all. Great musicians great set list and a great crowd.

  • David Bryne was spectacular!

by LaurieC on 2018-08-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What a tremendous evening! David Bryne still has it and could show younger bands a thing or two about stage presence. Beautifully choreographed, with all musicians wearing their instruments marching band style. The sound was incredible and shows what amazing performers they are all. Toronto could use a few reminders oh how to act at live shows. The guys sitting behind us were not enjoying the opening act and proceeded to talk all the way through. If you aren't into it, go have another beer in the lobby till the headliner is on. Show a little respect for the people performing and concert goers who may have been excited to experience the opener, with out the running commentary.

  • David Byrne let down

by Rozzzz on 2018-08-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

David Byrne put on a great show but I wish he had played more of the oldies. The new songs are just not for me and that’s why I’m not recommending it.

  • Full of energy

by JDD2 on 2018-08-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I've been to many concerts over the years and I have to say that David Bryne was the best show I have been to yet. The performance was unique and high energy from the minute David Bryne walked on the stage to the three encores he did. Simply an amazing show!!!
