Legendary artist at a legendary venue. Massey Hall is so great; please do not change it!
A quiet acoustic set with a small degree of shambling between instruments as Neil pondered which of his many songs to tackle next. No sign of any political oil-sands commentary, except for a few changed lyrics, but a minor request to honour our commitments and live honest lives. Lots of acoustic gentle rock and an excellent crowd. The voice strained a little but was still wonderfully poignant.
Seeing Neil play acoustic in such an intimate setting was something I never thought I'd get to experience and it was better than I could have imagined! Diana Krall was also great, as always!
Informative & completely entertaining. First concert I've seen Diana Krall at - loved it. Neil Young (well this is the fifth concert of his we've been to) was simply amazing as ususal. Have to give him credit for speaking up & telling it like it is. He (Neil Young) has been around for a very long time, does his research & tells it like it is - lets nobody influence hime once his mind is made up. Thanks.
Solo Neil Young playing almost all his greatest songs....reaching back to obscure older songs and telling stories about them and his favourite instruments which are scattered around the stage. He moves about spontaneously and yet very deliberately. Highlights: A Man Needs a Maid, (and the accompanying story) a Phantom of the Operaish Mr. Soul on the old organ, and a beautiful version of Someday.
This was the 4th time to see Neil Young perform live. I'm thinking it is the best! Performing solo was unbelievable. The entire focus was on him only. The harmonica playing is fantastic. His songs say it all! It was a true classic. The purpose behind the concert is a true picture of who Neil Young really is. And with David Suzuki in the audience we know that the debate about the social and enviromental effects of the oilsands project will be a show I look forward to seeing on the Nature of Things some day. If Neil Young did this as annual event I would buy tickets again.
Incredible. Two amazing artists in one night. Also artists who care about people bringing attention to a subject that will affect us all for the rest of our lives. Not to mention our children's lives. Thank you to both of them for a most enjoyable and important show. The world needs more people like them.
Neil Young was perfectly himself. Consistent delivery of beautiful sound.
Intimate atmosphere. Great sound. Great songs from a master songwriter. What more can I say? Will never forget this show!
My husband and I loved this concert. The contrasts and differences between Neil Young and Diana Krall (musically and personality wise) were obvious. And yet they share the passion of environment concern. How lucky for us that the cause drew them together and resulted in this shared billing. They are both amazing vocalists and performers, and Neil Young is an incredible song-writer. I enjoyed every minute of the concert, hearing both the known and lesser-known songs performed by both artists.
On fire for the mini tour. This Honor the Treaties cause regarding the Alberta Tar Sands has lit a fire under Neil's butt not that he needed it but it doesn't hurt.
This was vintage Neil, for a critical cause. Absolutely spectacular, and I only wish I could follow the tour. Calgary could get 'interesting'!!!
Perfect. Nothing more to say. Thanks Neil. Sound was perfect. Set list perfect. He is a master.
Diana Krall opened the show with her amazing voice and piano skills! Intermission was full of entertainment with aboriginal song and dance to honour the cause. Neil Young took the stage and blew everyone away. Played an almost 2 hour acoustic set with the harmonicas, pianos, synthesizer and an organ all in tow. An amazing night overall! So glad I was able to see him and to contribute to such a great cause.
Young was totally indifferent to the huge crowd that showed up with no attempt at making a connection-sadly lacking in enthusiasm, personality and warmth and in fact I thought he displayed contempt to the crowd. The songs played were drawn out forever with repetative verses and guitar feedback that just went on and on and on. I felt little effort was made and Mr Young appeared bored out of his mind. The selection of songs got to be very dark and depressing and even he made a brief comment on lightening up the mood just before he played Cinnamon Girl-maybe he noticed a few people were getting up and leaving or just sitting there skirming in their seats from boredom with their eyes glazed over. The encore was a joke-sang happy birthday. I never expected he would play alot of his older hits and/or crowd favourites but really. I wish I would have sold my $250 each tickets outside the building and will never go to another Neil Young concert.
3rd time seeing neil and the show was as great as always ...
Good old fashioned Rock and Roll the way it started out as in the beginning. Cool and relaxing! Had a good time!
Always enjoy seeing Neil Young! Just didn't enjoy the people that were too busy getting up (and making us get up) so they could constantly interrupt us & others to go get beer, beer & more beer. Honestly it was the worst concert I have been to for this reason. Have been to see Neil at least 10 times & no it was not all young people. All ages!!!
Wow!! Neil can still rip the strigs off his guitar and pierce your brain, your heart, and your soul: an excellent concert, plenty of flash, beaucoups of rocking! The band could read each other like e-books.
