  • Neil Young still has what it takes!

by Stews on 2012-12-01Scotiabank Saddledome - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Wow, Neil still has what it takes to play. Wasn't expecting the long drawn out guitar playing. Don't guitar players get carpel tunnel syndrome? Lots of hard rock n roll.

  • Neil and Crazy Horse rocked!!

Great show - enjoyed the mix of new and old - Neil and the boys had some great jam sessions!

  • neil young brought the house down!!

Unbelievable show. Fantastic acoustics!! Did not like that light was left on in certain areas of the arena. Ushers were outstanding - very efficient

  • Grumpy Old Men... Jamming

by stoneycanuk on 2012-11-28Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Neil - Indifferent, boring... a grumpy old man. Band: Average musicians jamming in their basement Show - No show, no audience connection, no visual effects (except a weird thunderstorm which was out of context) Sound - Great if you like feedback, distortion and the same song repeated again and again. Summary - One of the worst shows I've ever seen. Tickets - He must be laughing all the way to the bank. A rip off... don't waste your money!

  • Neil Young and Crazy Horse

This show was fantastic. Lots of people expected more songs and less "jamming", but watching the masters do what they do best was a great experience. The whole band really looked like they were loving every second of that show which is amazing to see.

Plays what he wants as long as he wants. Great concert but if you only go for the hits you might be disappointed. It is heavy on the grunge element so I'm not sure what the older folks in the audience (there were many) felt. Encore was weak (1 song). Neil and Crazy Horse were dialed in.

  • Niel Young and Boring Horse!

by foxyblue on 2012-11-23MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 1 out of 5

i fell asleep, oh what a boring concert that was....never ever again would i waste my money on Young and Crazy Horse....two big thumbs down! I would rate it a negative number or a big whooping ZERO if the rating guide had those options available.

  • Neil Young is timeless!!!

    by thefin64 on 2012-11-23Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Neil still rocks like he did when he was a newbie! He beat on his guitars with the energy of a twenty something year old. It amazes me that he sounds the same as he always has. Many aging rockers can't say the same! I saw people of all ages enjoying this show. Teens, young adults, middle aged and those well past retirement. His music defies age and is timeless. We love you Neil! Thanks for rocking through our lives!

  • Heavy Duty

by Anonymous on 2012-11-22Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

The concert was primarily heavy duty rock and roll, Crazy Horse style. Neil Young is amazing on guitar, and has a huge amount of energy, but it would have been nice to have more of his "unplugged" or country-ish material.

  • Neil at the ACC in Toronto

by wjpoitnner on 2012-11-21Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Great show. An exuberant performance; clearly Neil and Crazy Horse are enjoying a reunion after sometime. Much more kickass rock than many tours of late. The ending of Walk Like a Giant reaches back to something early Floyd may have done. Can see the less hardcore fans struggling at times; but I for one am not ready for Neil to start the "remember my hits" tours like the Who and others. I expect a few more true classics to be penned before that time comes.

  • Neil Young was good!

by OldMusicLover on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Great guitar player! The sound was amazing, but not being a person who knew every song he ever played, I found some of the songs way too long. The guitar solos went on forever... The hits that I knew, he played extremely well!

Really great concert, excellent opening acts. Enjoyed the show

  • Neil Young was not what I hoped for

by seered on 2012-11-21Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

FIrst of all let me say that Niel is a legend, and nothing I say can take that away from him. He is an amazing vocalist and guitarist. However the seats were horrible and I couldn't see anything from the second row directly beside the stage. Songs stretched on for way too long, and the amount of songs played from the new album seemed a bit much. Hoped for some more recognizable songs from his plethora of material. Would not go again.

  • A drug induced trip into bizarro world

    by canadianguy123 on 2012-11-21Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

First of all, I am a life long fan of Neil Young, and this show with crazy horse was just that.. crazy. This was a mix of performance art, tributes to home and respect for the music. What can you say about an artist who returns home and opens with the Canadian National Anthem. Neil Young is one of those special performers because you never know what you are going to get, but you know this would not be a greatest hits tour because that is not Neil's style or method to the madness of Crazy Horse. You have to respect a man who wanders into all genres of music but always returns to his roots at some point. and this show was no exception. In fact this show is something I keep talking about, and when I say "talking about" I do mean talking about how long a couple of songs were. Some of those songs were great at the start, middle but what about the end, that damn end, when was it ever going to happen? I mean a song can be extended as long as the song was coherent and the transition from one part to the next makes sense, but a show made of 13 songs means something was out there, and I mean way way out there. The experimentation on a couple of songs went on for what seemed an eternity. Now I am not complaining about it, I am simply stating that if he had cut the existential experimental hammering of the chords in half, he could have played at least five more songs, that's how long some of the songs went on. He was breaking out the inner Hendrix raunchiness and the crowd not only ate it up but they applauded at any moment they thought the song was over only to discover that it certainly was not. Crazy Horse Electric, Neil acoustic and a new upbeat rendition of Helpless really made this a show to remember. Yes I would recommend the show, but if you are expecting his greatest hits note for note, forget it, you may as well play them at home. Neil Young offers much more than a standard concert he leaves you with something not only to remember, but definitely something you will never forget.

  • Neil still has it

by Jeffries on 2012-11-21MTS Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

He can still Rock, that old guy. The new work holds up pretty well against the classics, but he is a little self indulgent when it comes to the long feedback and solos on the new stuff. I would prefer a larger percentage of older material.

  • neil young & crazy horse

by Anonymous on 2012-11-21Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

where were all your great songs Neil??? Heard a lot of guitar rifts (that never ended..) but really missed the good ballads. Stage set-up was really poor for those sitting along the sides and close to the stage.

  • Face the Audience, not just the music, Crazy Horse

by DrPepperoni on 2012-11-21Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

PROS: It's Neil Young. His superb guitar playing. Half the songs played, both old and new. The band is one tight unit. CONS: The band performed in a closed triangle most of the time, looking at each other and not at the audience. Face it, Crazy Horse, it's better when you face us! Not everybody's ears are attuned to unrelenting grunge sounds that prevailed in 2-3 numbers. You can love the performer without loving everything her plays. The video cams didn't take enough extended close-ups. They cut away too quickly, too often, and all too often, the shots were taken from poor angles. The ribbons from the oversized mic stand kept blowing in front of Neil, which obstructed my view. Los Lobos didn't sound as clean as I had expected based on their recordings.

  • Neil Young was disappointing

    by cain4 on 2012-11-21Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Self indulgent guitar work. 5 minutes repeating the last chord of a song ? Really ? A great jam session but people come from a long way off & pay a lot of $$ . He's a great guitarist but not Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana or Eric Clapton. The riffs went on & on and often seemed to have little to do with the songs. A great song writer & we wished he had played more songs.

  • Crazy Horse has left the Barn

The jamming sessions were to long and too dyssynchronous ie painful to listen to.

  • so bad

by dabbd on 2012-11-21Air Canada Centre - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

this is my 15th time seeing him and by far the worst. All guitar rants sounded the same didn't play long enough. Etc etc Would love my money back.
