About

ANBERLIN IN CONCERT:

Beloved Christian rock outfit Anberlin announced that their 2014 album and tour would be their last, meaning fans have one last chance to see them in action. The band has been a scene mainstay for more than a decade with their anthemic alt rock sound, topping the Christian Albums Chart four consecutive times with taut albums like 2008's New Surrender and 2012's Vital. The band's final album, 2014's Lowborn, will be accompanied by The Final Tour, a decisively titled last hurrah for the veteran rockers.  Seeing Anberlin on their farewell tour may be bittersweet, but it will also be unforgettable -- the band has promised to pull out all the stops, treating fans to career-spanning sets that will include favorites like "Feel Good Drag" and "Impossible".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Anberlin formed in Florida in 2002 from the ashes of Christian punk outfit SaGoh 24/7, a short-lived project started by singer Stephen Christian and bassist Deon Rexroat during high school. After SaGoh failed to gain traction, the band reemerged with a rock sound and a new moniker, making their debut as Anberlin in 2003 with the album Blueprints for the Black Market. Although the release failed to chart, it spawned the popular single "Readyfuels" and led to extensive touring. The band's 2005 sophomore album fared better, landing at No. 5 on the Christian chart and No. 3 on the Heatseekers chart. Their success continued in 2007 with the album Cities, which earned them a major label deal with Universal. Their debut on the imprint -- 2008's New Surrender -- peaked at No. 1 on the Christian chart, a feat the band would repeat with their next three albums including their final album, 2014's Lowborn. Accompanying Lowborn is the bands farewell gesture to fans, a rollicking set of dates on The Final Tour that provides ticket buyers with one last opportunity to see Anberlin before they call it quits for good.

    anberlin and those crunchy guitars

by righteousradio on 2010-11-01The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

I only came for Anberlin, due to I was detained at another function. I had seen them previous a year or more at the same venue, the Garrick. An odd mixture of ages.. parents.. kids.. young adults.. and the odd thirty-ish types. Just like Winnipegers, we braved one of the first cold nights (I brought a jacket), most didn't. It wasn't as loud as the previous show that made me want to stick my fingers in my ears. I could pleasantly sing and yell along with Stephen Christian. He is definitely a rock star. The guitars never displeased me, and the light show.. goodness. I loved the lights! Finally a band in a small venue, that could still be cozy but pour money into lights. More of that please! Not too much banter from the stage, the usual.. how's winnipeg.. we love you.. blah blah.. we came when it was minus 40 out.. but I enjoyed no swearing or other dumb impressive talk. although the vocals sometimes weren't spot on (not that i was expecting complete studio vocals).. he still showed that he had an amazing voice, backed by a brilliant band that played their hearts out. The played a mixture of all their albums.. I did miss them playing (their cover of) True Faith, but they played their latest single Impossible.. and other singles like Feel Good Drag and ended the show (just like last time) with Fin. I love them each time I've seen them .. now to get the remaining albums!

    Anberlin

by suzysizzle on 2010-10-29Sound Academy - Toronto

The concert had a lot of energy, it had a great line up of bands who all played really well and Anberlin's light sticks in the background created a great effect when taking pictures. I think Anberlin balenced their set well with songs from every album and as a result was a great concert for die-hard fans or for newer ones.

    Im upset

by rmalonda on 2010-10-28Sound Academy - Toronto

I didn't know anything about anberlin, i went to see civil twilight and crash kings. I got late there, i saw civil tilight in their last song and i was waiting to see crash kings. Those guys were amazing on stage until a guy came to the stage and told the singer he had to sing just one more song. I paid to see three bands and i saw 1 1/2 bands. Moreover, the guy from crash kings started singing a song from another band when everybody went there to listen to their music. Civil twilight and crash kings performed 100% better than anberlin, i don't know who set the bands like that.

    More time for Anberlin

by Klosser on 2010-10-28Sound Academy - Toronto

Overall, I thought the show was well done and Anberlin was energetic and eager to perform. The special effects were done appropriately and the sound came off well. My 1 complaint is the lack of playing time Anberlin received. I do not know if it was their decision or the director at Sound Academy to decide the amount of songs played but I thought the opening bands were provided with too much "air time". I was not a big fan of either of the opening bands, especially to take up the first 2 hours.

    Crashed Kings

by listen on 2010-10-28Sound Academy - Toronto

Sorry Crash Kings....you were amazing until you opted to play a Black Sabbath cover over one of your own songs. Sure, you rocked the cover, but we're paying to see you play your own material live...not just to buy it on itunes as you suggested we do if we want to hear it!

    Crash Kings or Civil Twilight

by suansong on 2010-10-28Sound Academy - Toronto

The Crash Kings or Civil Twilight should have been the headliners! Both bands were awesome! I only give it a 4 because of Anberlin. Was not overly impressed with them. One song they did I think it was the 2nd or 3rd, sounded a lot like I'm not Jesus by Apocalyptica. The band also needs to grow some hair (aside from the guy way in the back), they don't have the stage appeal to be playing rock music. All I could picture was Insync..... If it had just been Crash Kings and/or Civil Twilight it would have been a 5. One bummer from Crash Kings is they did not play Mountain Man....sorry he may be sick of singing it, but that is what we paid to come hear!

3 Great Bands, but still no lyrics?

by irwinny on 2010-10-23The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

The Event was amazing Civil Twilight began with a short set. They were like Our Lady Peace Meets Coldplay. Great Music and Great Vocals. Super fast guitar too. Next was Crash Kings, and that Guy can sure sing and Play piano, I was shocked and awed by his impressive talents. Five for Fighting Meets Maroon 5. Then came Anberlin, who put on an amazing show, and Played all my favorites, except for Inevitable. They're presence was invigorating and energizing. My only beef with the whole show was that the mixing was soooo off. It was impossible to figure out what Civil Twilight was saying although I could sure tell he had pipes. Crash kings was actually fine, but for the first half of Anberlin I also couldn't here any lyrics. It was all great, but anberlin didn't do anything special like accoustic songs, or new songs, or covers that would stick out as a special moment in the show.

Great live act! High energy. Vocals like their album, WOW! Guitars were awesome. Bass and drums you felt in your chest. Great show. I took my 13 year old daughter and 12 year old son, and they were blown away at how good Anberlin is. Thanks for a great show. We'll be there the next tim you come to the "PEG".

    Cool lights now too!

by Snipes on 2010-10-23The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

Anberlin was fantastic once again. Very fun to watch. I think their best song performance was "Closer" with intense and cool light effects. Always enjoy the crowd singing along. They have so many songs that I like that it is impossible to play them all...but there were a couple that they sang that weren't their best songs...in my opinion, but still enjoyable.

by BroTiger on 2010-10-23The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

Anberlin was so total awesome, the light show was sweet. Crash Kings price is right intro was probably the best intro ever. They were pretty funny and used their instruments differently but awesome. Civil Twilight were pretty good. Guitarist was sweet.

I saw these guys 3 years ago at the Powerplant and still considered it one of my all time fav concerts. This concert was even better!! Such a good performance. So engaging. The crowd was screaming every word with them. Definitely a night to remember
