The Cro-Mags from NYC were blazing and God damed if they weren't inspiring as well! Hardcore legend Harley Flanagan was in fine form on Monday night...
These guys pumped out song after song and each one was tight. They put on a great show. It was my first time seeing them live. My only complaint was the lack of songs played from Aftertaste and Size Matters, which are mine and my husband's favorite albums. Only one song was played from Aftertaste and none from Size Matters! A more balanced set list would have earned a 5 out of 5. Page Hamilton seemed really cool and stayed to sign autographs after the show! I love that they played a small venue.
Page Hamilton the legend...and still rocking out. Anything Helmet to do with this show was awesome, from a tight set that was jammed with songs from all the albums and some rare tunes that us devoted Helmet fans don't hear every show (Sinatra for example upon my personal request) The opening local band sounded interesting, but terrible sound and a short set didn't really give much to cheer about. The guys had energy so I'll give them that...and as was the theme of the night - the drummer was awesome! Intronaut who I am not 100% familiar with, were incredible. Fans of Messugah, Mastadon, Lake, etc (and even Mudvayne's Bass lines) will love these guys. Very talented and so tight. I will surely be checking them out and grabbing some CD's from this talented group. The drummer for these guys was one of the best I've ever seen and that's up against some good drummers like both Primus (Brain and Herb), and Chad Smith to name a few. Helmet was Helmet. Page was awesome and although they played a tonne of songs, he did interact with the audience a lot and even took requests during the encore. The rest of the band was great and were involved with singing and bouncing around enjoying the music that they play - tough after seeing the supergroup that was assembled for last Toronto stop - but really good none the less. My only problem was there was minimal energy from crowd - I might be too old for it, but I did look forward to bouncing around in a pit and singing along with one of my fave bands! Can't complain though as the venue is cool and we were right in front of Page all night long just watching him do his thing.
