About
Gideon on Tour
Originally identifying as a Christian band, Gideon had a realization around 2019 that they didn't want to exclude people based on their religious beliefs, and so they abandoned their Christian roots. The Alabama band also leaned into a heavier, more hardcore sound rather than their earlier, more melodic inclinations.
Gideon released their first, self-titled EP independently in 2010 and were soon picked up by Facedown Records, a division of Strike First. Since then, they've gone on to release five full-length studio albums and another EP, charting on Billboard's top Christian Albums and Heatseekers Albums lists.
Don't miss the chance to have your face melted off when Gideon comes to a city near you.
Gideon Live in Concert
Gideon originally formed as a Christian metalcore band in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 2008 by vocalist/guitarist Daniel McCartney, guitarist Kris Gottlieb, vocalist Scooter Lee, bassist Timothy Naugher, and drummer Jake Smelley. Raised as Southern Baptists, the members of Gideon became part of the Christian hardcore scene shortly after forming.
In later years the band realized that their beliefs no longer aligned with what they'd been taught growing up and so they decided to abandon their Christian roots in 2019. Around that time, Gideon released their second EP, No Love/No One, after a series of full-length studio albums, which showcased a heavier hardcore sound. The album Out of Control followed later that year, featuring their new, hard-hitting and aggressive leanings. Gideon has also undergone several lineup changes over the years, with 2022's lineup featuring Daniel McWhorter, Tyler Riley, Jake Smelley, and Caleb DeRusha.
